the opportunity
For this project, I was tasked with creating a modal-based application that integrated user-provided information into a functional webpage. I decided to create a playful and engaging concept: Cool Cats, a fake social media platform exclusively for cats. The goal was to build a realistic social media profile experience while implementing interactivity using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This project pushed me to explore the balance between functionality and design while making the experience fun and immersive for users.
the process
I designed a profile creator where users could input a profile picture, name, birthday, breed, and favorite activity through a modal. The submitted information populated a customizable cat profile, complete with a profile picture, banner image, profile details, and a section recommending other cats to follow. Throughout development, I iterated on the concept and layout, narrowing the theme to focus solely on cats for a more cohesive experience. Small additions, like a prompt to "create your first post," enhanced the platform's interactivity while refining the user journey. I also incorporated animal-themed imagery to make the process more welcoming and engaging.
The results
The final result was an eye-catching, fully interactive website that combined functionality with whimsical design. Limiting the concept to cats and focusing on small, meaningful details created a polished and cohesive user experience. This project strengthened my skills in both front-end development and user-focused design, demonstrating my ability to adapt my ideas while staying true to the project’s goals. Cool Cats showcased how even playful concepts can challenge technical skills and deliver an impactful final product.
